Frequently Asked Questions about NeurOptimal® Sessions

Users generally report a feeling of relaxation and mental calm during the session.

Do not expect specific changes; each training is different, and anticipating something concrete can limit your ability to notice changes in other areas.

Some people notice changes from the first sessions, while others need more time to observe them. Sometimes, a spouse or family member may notice changes before you do.

How changes are perceived depends in part on how connected you are to your body and mind. The important thing is to let go of expectations and allow yourself to be surprised by the changes that occur naturally during the process.

Commonly reported changes after a few sessions include:

  • Feeling of serenity and calm
  • More detached from situations that used to feel uncomfortable
  • Increased vitality and energy
  • Improved concentration and mental clarity
  • More fluid and flexible thinking

This is a very common question: “If I have migraines, ADHD, sleep problems, or another difficulty, how many sessions should I do to notice a change?”

There is no fixed number of sessions, nor can it be predicted in which area changes will appear, since NeurOptimal® is not a medical treatment, but a Dynamic Neurofeedback brain training designed to support self-regulation.

It is your own brain that defines its priorities. And since each brain learns and adapts at its own pace, the number of sessions is up to you, depending on the changes and sensations you notice as you progress in your training.

To begin noticing changes and consolidate the benefits of the training, it is usually necessary to complete a minimum number of NeurOptimal® sessions. However, the exact number varies from person to person, as the central nervous system responds differently depending on personal history, stress levels, and individual adaptability.

It can be compared to taking math classes or attending therapy: it is difficult to predict how many sessions will be needed, but each Dynamic Neurofeedback session brings benefits and supports gradual progress.

General guidance based on what I have observed with my clients:

  • Less than 15 sessions: usually insufficient if long-lasting changes are desired.
  • 16 to 24 sessions: the most common range in which most of my clients have noticed significant and sustainable changes.
  • More than 30 sessions: some people choose to continue with periodic sessions (one or two per month) to maintain and reinforce the benefits, although this is not a requirement.

Each case is unique. The user decides when to reduce or space out sessions according to their own experience.

There is no fixed protocol; the frequency of NeurOptimal® sessions will mainly depend on your time availability and budget.

However, it is recommended to do the first sessions consecutively, ideally once or twice a week. Afterwards, sessions can be spaced out according to your needs, goals, and personal availability.

We can compare it again to taking math classes or seeing a therapist: if you only attend once a month, it is unlikely that you will notice significant changes.

Yes, the benefits of NeurOptimal® sessions are usually long-lasting and cumulative, as long as a sufficient number of sessions have been completed.
In general, the more brain training sessions you do, the clearer and more stable the changes in self-regulation, emotional well-being, and mental clarity tend to be.

During the session, we recommend doing whatever feels most comfortable for you. Some people prefer to lie down and relax, even sleep, while others read, play games, or work on their computer.
It is important to avoid moving too much: moving an arm to turn a page is fine, but you should remain seated or lying down to prevent the sensors from coming off.

The most important rule: you cannot play music or movies from your phone or computer. The sound must come exclusively from the NeurOptimal® system, as the training works through the micro-sound interruptions generated by the system itself.

Young or more restless children, who find it difficult to sit still for 35 minutes, can watch a cartoon instead of listening to music. This usually helps them stay calm while receiving feedback from the system (as long as the sound comes from the NeurOptimal® system and not from an external source like a phone).

General Questions about NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback

Training with NeurOptimal® has no known contraindications.
During the session, the only information the brain receives is a sound interruption, to which it responds by self-regulating, making the training safe for people of all ages and physical or mental conditions.

NeurOptimal® is a non-invasive training and does not produce side effects, as it does not introduce external stimuli or force changes in the body or mind.
Occasionally, intense emotions may arise temporarily, reflecting how the nervous system is adjusting and releasing old patterns that are no longer useful.

NeurOptimal® can be used by people of all ages: from newborns and children to teenagers, adults, and older adults, even during pregnancy. It has also been used in animals such as dogs, cats, and horses.

Some people combine NeurOptimal® Dynamic Neurofeedback with psychological therapies, such as sessions with psychologists or EMDR.
